چکیده

Breast cancer comprises 10.4% of all cancer incidences among women, making it the most common type of non-skin cancer in women and the fifth most common cause of cancer death. Silibinin, also known as silybin, is the major active constituent of silymarin. Silibinin has also demonstrated anticancer effects against human prostate adenocarcinoma cells, estrogen-dependent and – independent human breast carcinoma cells, human ectocervical carcinoma cells, human colon cancer cells, and both small and nonsmall human lung carcinoma cells. In the present study, MCF-7 and HUVEC cells were incubated with different concentrations of silibinin (100μg/ml, 150μg/ml and 200μg/ml) at 24h. Then cell cytotoxicity was assessed by MTT assay and IC50 was determined by Pharm software. The results showed that silibinin has dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the viability of MCF-7 cells and with the least inhibitory effect on the viability of normal cells (HUVEC). 284 M. Evaluation of Silibinin effects on the Viability of HepG2 (Human hepatocellular liver carcinoma) and HUVEC (Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial) cell lines

Human hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most common recurrent malignancies, for as much as, there is no effective therapy. Silibinin, a widely used drug and supplement for various liver disorders, demonstrated anticancer effects against human hepatocellular carcinoma, human prostate adenocarcinoma cells, human breast carcinoma cells, human ectocervical carcinoma cells, and human colon canc...

Environmental 50Hz Magnetic Fields Can Increase Viability of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVEC)

Introduction Over the last decades, considerable levels of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) have been characterized in the living environment. Recent epidemiological studies on occupational and residential exposure to EMF have shown that 50/60 Hz fields, known as extremely low frequencies (ELF), have various biological effects, such as angiogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the effect of en...

Induction of endothelial cell apoptosis by solid tumor cells.

The mechanisms by which tumor cells extravasate to form metastasis remain controversial. Previous studies performed in vivo and in vitro demonstrate that the contact between tumor cells and the vascular wall impairs endothelium integrity. Here, we investigated the effect of breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells on the apoptosis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). TUNEL labeling, nucl...

Effect of Silibinin on Maspin and ERα Gene Expression in MCF-7 Human Breast Cancer Cell Line

Background and objective: According to reports, a serine protease inhibitor (Maspin) suppresses metastasis, invasion and angiogenesis in breast and prostate cancers. Silibinin is a natural polyphenolic flavonoid with anti-cancer activity. We assessed the effects of silibinin on cell viability, maspin and ERα gene expression in MCF-7 cell line. <s...
